I Asked for Input and Boy Did I Get an Earful!!!!

Thanks so very much to everyone for sharing their insights. I think it made my second broadcast even better than the first, but (as always) what YOU think is far more important than what I think.

THESE ARE EXCITING TIMES!

Those who follow this blog know that I advocate defining what you want and then walking towards it one step at a time. Well, these days I seem to be running at full speed towards my want to be broadcasted across the Internet, magazines and radio stations.

And I have all of you to thank because your continued interest in what I have to say is the motivation I need to keep walking my walk. More importantly, your support continues to generate more and more interest in my articles, my book and my radio program - Living Wisely with Dr. Lucia.

So, today I want to share with you two of the most recent steps on my walk towards syndication!

The first is regarding the publication of the monthly articles I write about ways to manage stress. The number of magazines publishing my articles continues to grow AND last week I was interviewed by a Florida newspaper interested in running the articles as a feature in their Lifestyles section.

Click on the link to read my latest article appearing in this month's Vero's Voice (see page 40) about how self-evaluation leads to new insights regarding your wants.

The second link is the promotion for my Living Wisely with Dr. Lucia radio program. The gentleman interviewing me is the station manager who is also one of my biggest fans. My 10:30 spot on Tuesday mornings (see below to listen in) follows Dr. James Dobson's Family Talk program. That was purposefully done because Dr. Dobson is already syndicated and the station manager wants to bill the two shows as "The Psychology Hour." NEAT STUFF!

And stay tuned, because by Monday I will have uploaded a rebroadcast of my first Living Wisely show. I can't wait to hear how you like it!

MOVING FORWARD

This has been a busy few weeks, filled with lots of updates. First and foremost...

I am officially a member of the talk radio community! The show is broadcasted live on the first and second Tuesday of the month between 10:30 and 11:00 am. I've included a link if you would like to hear one of my promo tapes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94PNfo-3yMw

There are two ways to listen live via the internet:

Go to the Iheart Radio website and click listen live
http://www.iheart.com/live/4788/?autoplay=true

-OR-

Listen anywhere by downloading the free Iheart Radio application to your mobile device.

Next month, rebroadcasts of the show will be available on my blog and...

Soon you can carry me anywhere by downloading YOUTUBE!

My second bit of exciting news is that I am expanding my practice to include more
telephone and internet counseling.

The test pilot I ran was remarkably successful. While not suitable for all populations, teletherapy can be very effective for people who need to sort through issues of grief, loss, worry and confusion. For more information, please contact me at drlucia@drluciamatthews.com

For those who prefer to communicate via the telephone, please call 401-258-5751.

And finally...

I promised to write an article about how to keep yourself motivated enough to accomplish any resolution you make. Check out my latest article in Vero's Voice and let me know if I delivered on my promise!

Oh! One more piece of news. Today is my 32nd wedding anniversary. In honor of the event, my next article is about what constitutes a good relationship. Any input?

Happy Anniversary, Paul

Ringing Out The Old & Bringing In The New

The month of January is typically filled with articles about ways to keep our New Year's resolutions. While these motivational posts are helpful, I think early January is a bit too soon for a pep-talk. Most of us are still focused on being successful and motivated to persevere. However, I do think it productive to discuss something that often derails our good intentions- Cognitive Rigidity.

Cognitive rigidity is the tendency to think of things as either black (failure) or white (success). Cognitive rigidity is the precursor to defeat. Why? Because black or white thinking causes us to stubbornly hold onto misguided beliefs. If your New Year's resolution is to lose weight, but you truly believe that you can NEVER be skinny, then all those good intentions will eventually fall by the wayside.

In this month's edition of Vero's Voice, I write about the negative effect cognitive rigidity has on relationships. However, the concept is equally pertinent to the relationship you have with yourself, and there is only one antidote - Compromise. Learning to compromise with others or with yourself means letting go of stubborn beliefs, and this month's article offers advice on how to make compromising a bit more palatable by using the fire safety technique of STOP, DROP & ROLL.

I hope I've whetted your appetite enough to peruse my article. I promise, my next post will show you a way to successfully accomplish any resolution you make. But for now, I suggest you consider letting go of your stubbornness and start thinking in shades of gray.

When people wish us "Happy Holidays", we often respond with a reflexive "And to you." But have you ever thought about what it really means to have a Happy Holiday? For some, sharing the holiday with family and friends elicits feelings of contentment and joy; while a merchant's definition of "happy" likely includes robust sales. From my perspective, feelings of happiness are inversely proportional to feelings of stress

the lower my stress, the higher my happiness

Yet, for many, the holiday season is the perfect stress storm in that those visions of sugar plums are often dashed by the realities of life. Whether those realities are in the form of conflict, worry or grief; most of us have had our "Happy Holiday" stolen by the Grinch known as stress.

And so, my Christmas gift to you is contained in the most recent edition of Vero's Voice. I wrote an article on how to manage stress and hope it helps to make your holiday season more joyful, more peaceful and...happy!
